Actions Speak Louder than Words

There are many ways to express one’s feelings and beliefs, but none of them are as powerful as actions are. Doing something that actually proves your opinion and displays it for the whole word to see will beat simply talking about it every time. Words have a power of their own, but it is an action that serves as solid proof of one’s position.

Thousands of people have been moved and motivated by speeches. There is no denying this fact; as one can see the evidence of it every day at sermons, political meetings, and any other kind of social gathering that involves a speech. The power that words hold can be a sharp blade that, if wielded by a corrupt hand, can destroy millions. One can recollect wars led by bigots as solid proof of this fact. The Second World War comes to mind right away. Hitler’s speeches that introduced and promoted the idea of Aryans being the higher race did a lot of damage. However, can this truly be considered as proof of the notion that words are more powerful than actions?

There can be only one answer to this question, and it is a resounding no. Had there been no actions taken to support these bigoted claims, there would have been no war fought over one man’s demented ideals. The words of the Nazis merely defined their course and beliefs. It was their actions that brought those concepts to life and made people fear them. Fear is a powerful weapon, but words alone cannot invoke the amount of terror needed to move the masses. It is only when people see that the words mean business that they begin to be truly afraid of them. After this certainty has been established, words may be enough, but not before that.

Positive motivation is another issue that some people believe to be powerful with words alone. To an extent this is true, as encouragement can produce great results. However, it is seeing these results or solid proof of the reality of them that truly moves people. Motivational speeches can give a boost of energy that will last for a time. Witnessing the success of the project will make the dreams real. This kind of motivation will last ten times longer.

Words speak loud and clear of your intentions, beliefs, and feelings, but they will never be able to generate as much response as actual demonstration. This is why the saying “actions speak louder than words” remains true.
